About
This course teaches a structured framework for working with AI across four competencies: Delegation, Description, Discernment, and Diligence (the “4D Framework”). You learn how to decide what to hand off to AI, how to communicate your needs clearly, how to critically evaluate what AI produces, and how to take responsibility for AI-assisted work. The framework is designed to apply across tools and models, so it stays useful as AI continues to evolve.
The course was developed by Anthropic in partnership with professors Rick Dakan (Ringling College of Art and Design) and Joseph Feller (University College Cork), who built the AI Fluency Framework between 2023 and 2024 through research into how AI tools were changing creative and business workflows. It has already been used in undergraduate and postgraduate courses at both institutions. Additional technical content was contributed by Anthropic staff Maggie Vo and Drew Bent.
Who’s Teaching
- Rick Dakan — Professor at Ringling College of Art and Design; co-developer of the AI Fluency Framework through research on AI’s impact on creative processes.
- Joseph Feller — Professor at University College Cork; co-developer of the AI Fluency Framework with a focus on business and educational applications of AI.
