What is Open Historia?
Open Historia is a free, open-source AI strategy game that lets you take control of any nation and issue orders in plain English. An AI referee plays out the consequences on a living world map. Borders move, alliances collapse, and economies respond to your choices.
It’s a community-built alternative to Pax Historia. You bring your own AI key (BYOK), and the game runs locally on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android. Your saves and scenarios never leave your device. It suits players who want an AI that actually responds to what they do, and builders who want to create and publish their own historical worlds.

Real-World Applications
Strategy players who want an AI game with real consequence rather than scripted branching may find Open Historia worth a long session. Someone who prefers to control an underdog nation, bleed a larger neighbor through attrition, and rebuild from a weakened position can set that up and let the AI referee handle how the world responds. The outcome differs every time because the AI reacts to the actual game state rather than a decision tree.
Alternate-history writers and worldbuilders can use the map editor to sketch out fictional continents, assign factions, and run the simulation forward to see how things break. Placing two rival powers on either side of a narrow sea and watching the AI play out naval tensions and shifting alliances can surface dynamics that are harder to work out on paper.
Modders and open-source contributors have direct access to the full codebase under AGPL-3.0. Someone who wants to rework the economic model, add a new scenario type, or change how the AI advisor presents briefings can fork the repo and build on it, as long as the changes stay open.
Android users who want a strategy AI game without committing to a desktop setup can install the Android app APK and play with saves stored on the phone. The world map downloads once and stays local, so there is no ongoing connection needed and no server to manage.
